Club History

History of Denim ‘n Lace Square Dance Club, Flesherton Ontario

The Denim ‘n Lace Square Dance Club had its beginnings as a 10 week course under Continuing Education at Grey Highlands Secondary School, Flesherton in the fall of 1992. It was a tremendous success and another 10 week course was held after Christmas. The Club was officially formed that September.

Jim & Shelley Lee were the course instructors and Jim has continued as our caller since that first year. Jim has been a square dance caller for 49 years, is well known worldwide, having called for many special dances locally, nationally and internationally. Charlie McClure teamed up with Jim Lee for a couple of the early years of the Club. Jim Lee was awarded the Trillium Award of Merit by the Ontario Square and Round Dance Federayion in recognition of his devoted years of faithful service to the dance community of Ontario as well as nationally and internationally. The presentation was made at our Spring Fling dance on May 14th, 2016 with over 170 dancers and longtime friends in attendance.

The Club currently dances on Wednesday evenings from September to May at South East Grey Support Services Pavilion, located at 774292 Highway 10 N., Flesherton from 7:00 pm to 9:15 pm. A beginners class is being held this year starting October 12th.  Mainstream and Plus levels of dancing is incorporated into each evening of dancing for experienced dancers.  One dance each month has a special theme which includes lunch or dinner/dance. Our Christmas Dinner/Dance is always popular and the annual Spring Fling Dance held in May is attended by guests from several other clubs. The Spring Fling, our closing dance of the year, is held at Stothart Hall in Priceville.

Denim ‘n Lace is an active, welcoming Club and invites new members to come out and join in the fun, fellowship and friendship of square dancing.
